Sometimes, it’s not your CV or experience holding you back. It’s the small details you overlook.
I learned this during my NYSC, and I still remember it because the question that got me accepted was one I never expected.
During my NYSC, I was posted to an international organization in Ibadan, IITA.
But no department accepted me.
Then I started hearing the same thing from different people:
“Go to this department. The boss is a foreigner and very generous.”
“But just pray you meet him.”
Apparently, he was hardly around, and even when he was, not everyone got access to him.
So I didn't just show up.
I prayed, prepared, and showed up intentionally.
I paid attention to everything:
✔️ The building number
✔️ The department name
✔️ The environment
Fortunately, I met him at the office.
There was no CV review.
No interview questions.
He simply asked:
“What's the number of this building?”
That was it.
I answered correctly, and he signed my acceptance letter immediately.
That moment taught me something:
Sometimes, opportunities are hidden in the details people ignore.
You never really know what someone may ask you or what they may notice.
So before your next interview:
✔️ Research the company.
✔️ Understand the role you're applying for.
✔️ Pay attention to your environment.
✔️ Be prepared for unexpected questions.
✔️ Don't assume that only your CV will be evaluated.
You don't have to know everything.
But being prepared and paying attention can make a big difference.
Sometimes, a small detail can open a very big door.
