Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Machine Operation:Safely operate hydraulic excavators including 360-degree units for excavation, grading, trenching, and demolition.
- Site Preparation:Clear land, dig foundations for buildings, and excavate trenches for pipes or cables.
- Safety & Maintenance:Conduct pre-operational daily inspections checking oil, fuel, fluid levels, perform basic repairs, and ensure the machine is in good working order to prevent malfunctions.
- Material Handling:Load, move, and lift heavy materials dirt, rocks, debris with precision.
- Site Plan Adherence:Read blueprints and survey markers to ensure digging occurs at the correct depth, slope, and location.
- Collaboration:Coordinate with ground crew, signalers, and site supervisors to maintain a safe, efficient workflow, often in restricted spaces.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: 3 - 4 years of experience in operating excavators or similar heavy machinery.
- Technical Skills:Proficient understanding of hydraulic equipment and basic maintenance.
- Technology Proficiency:Familiarity with GPS and laser-guided systems for precise excavation.
- Physical Ability:Good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and ability to sit for extended periods.
- Safety Knowledge:Strong understanding of workplace safety regulations e.g., OSHA, including handling underground utilities.
