After years on both sides of the hiring table, these are the things I wish every candidate understood before they applied.

We want you to be the one

A recruiter's job is to fill the role. When you apply, we're hoping you're the right fit. Make it easy for us to say yes.

Read the whole job description

Many applications are rejected because the candidate missed a must-have, like location or a required certification. Apply where you meet most of the requirements.

Follow the instructions

If the advert asks for the job title in the email subject, do it. Following simple instructions is the first test.

Silence isn't personal

Hiring timelines move slowly and depend on many people. A polite follow-up after a week or two is fine; ten messages are not.

Your reputation travels

Recruiters talk. Being courteous, on time and honest, even when you decline an offer, opens doors later.
