Sometimes, you may have the experience for a job but still miss the opportunity because of one basic skill you haven't learned yet.
I recently reviewed an application that reminded me how important basic computer skills have become.
I recently reviewed an application for a Customer Service role.
Her CV was okay. Not perfect, but she had some work experience.
Then she said something that changed everything:
“I don’t know how to use a computer.”
I was surprised, so I asked about her previous workplaces and how she used to do her job.
She explained that none of her previous workplaces required her to use a computer.
That helped me understand her situation.
It wasn't that she couldn't learn. She simply hadn't been exposed to it.
Unfortunately, that one skill meant she couldn't move forward in the hiring process.
I advised her to take a computer training class and start learning.
Because today, basic computer skills are important for many jobs.
And the good thing is, you don't need to be an expert to get started.
With consistent learning and practice, you can learn:
These skills can open doors to roles like:
👉 Customer Service
👉 Virtual Assistant
👉 Sales and Appointment Setting
👉 Remote Jobs
👉 Admin Roles
👉 AI-related jobs
Sometimes, the thing standing between you and an opportunity is not a lack of experience.
It may simply be one skill you haven't learned yet.
So if you don't know how to use a computer, don't be discouraged.
Learn it. Practice it. Improve yourself.
The opportunity you're waiting for might just need that one skill.
