The Role
- The Mechanical/Rotating Equipment Lead will provide technical leadership and authority for rotatingmachinery, mechanical systems, repair methods and reliability improvement across VURIN’s engineering,
- project, maintenance and service activities.
- The role will oversee technical requirements for pumps, compressors, generators, engines, valves andassociated mechanical systems, ensuring equipment decisions and interventions are based on soundengineering, OEM requirements, approved procedures, competent execution and appropriate inspection andtesting evidence.
- The role will also lead equipment failure diagnosis, repair and overhaul strategies, condition assessment andreliability improvement, ensuring equipment is safely and properly returned to service while converting lessonsfrom failures and repairs into improved equipment performance and technical capability.
What You’ll Do
Mechanical & Rotating Equipment Technical Leadership
- Provide technical direction for rotating machinery and mechanical systems across projects, maintenance and service activities.
- Establish appropriate technical requirements for pumps, compressors, generators, engines, valves andassociated mechanical equipment.
- Review equipment condition, operating information, inspection findings and failure history todetermine appropriate technical action.
- Define repair, overhaul, inspection, alignment, testing and release-to-service requirements.
- Review technical packages, work scopes and repair recommendations for technical adequacy andcompleteness.
Failure Diagnosis, Repair & Reliability
- Lead technical investigations into equipment failures, repeat failures and significant mechanical defects.
- Apply root-cause and failure-analysis methods to identify failure mechanisms and contributingconditions.
- Assess vibration, temperature, leakage, noise, wear and other available equipment conditionindicators.
- Determine corrective and preventive actions based on identified failure modes and equipment risk.
- Convert failure and repair findings into practical reliability improvements and lessons learned.
- Maintenance, Installation & Execution Quality
- Establish technical requirements for preventive, corrective and reliability-focused maintenanceactivities.
- Review equipment installation requirements, including alignment, torqueing, mechanical fit-up andassociated quality checks.
- Define pre-commissioning, commissioning and functional testing requirements for mechanicalequipment
- Ensure pressure, hydrostatic, pneumatic and other required testing is appropriately specified andevidenced.
- Verify that maintenance and repair work is executed by competent personnel using approvedmethods and suitable tools and equipment.
Technical Packages, OEM & Vendor Interface
- Review technical inputs for mechanical and rotating equipment work packages within delegatedauthority.
- Interface with OEMs, specialist vendors, workshops and service providers on equipment diagnosis, repair and technical requirements.
- Evaluate vendor recommendations against equipment condition, OEM requirements, approved
- specifications and VURIN’s technical needs.
- Review vendor reports, test results and technical documentation for completeness and technicalacceptance.
- Resolve technical queries and equipment-related interfaces affecting project or maintenanceexecution.
- Equipment Performance, Technical Assurance & Capability
- Monitor equipment performance, availability, repeat failures and breakdown trends to identifyreliability priorities.
- Establish appropriate technical checks for critical equipment and known recurring-failure assets.
- Review inspection findings, condition-monitoring information, calculations and test results relevant toequipment decisions.
- Lead and develop Mechanical/Rotating Engineers, Specialists and Technicians through coaching, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
- Capture lessons learned and recommend improvements to equipment practices, technical standards, tools and training.
